About Your Diploma 

If you’ve always thought about becoming a Nurse but life simply got in the way, or nursing has recently appealed to you as a career option, but you don’t have the qualification for entry onto the degree, you can still make this career switch by completing the Access to Higher Education Diploma programme that we offer. This is a nationally recognised programme for entry onto a nursing degree.

Is this course for me?

Access to Higher Education Diploma in Nursing and Midwifery Level 3

  • Designed for 19+ adults.

  • Provide aspiring nurses and midwives a route into nursing or midwifery degrees.

  • Must have Maths and English Level 2

 

*We support candidates to meet this requirement by helping them to achieve their Functional Skill Level 2 in Maths and English​

Work Placement

Learners will not be required to attend a work placement. However, working in a suitable adult care or hospital setting will be an advantage.

Expected Activities 
  • Weekly group classes  

  • One-to-one blended sessions 

  • Independent study

  • Assignment preparation support  

How long does it take? 

Learners will usually be able to achieve qualification in less than a year. ​

 
Course Structure

The course content focuses on the core knowledge and skills you need to successfully progress to study at a degree level in your chosen nursing field.

 

You will study a range of different units across the programme, some focusing on your academic skills and some more subject-specific, such as:​

  • Study Skills 

  • Preparation for Higher Education

  • Introduction to Healthcare

  • Health and disease

  • Care Principles

  • Mental health

  • Human Anatomy and Physiology

  • Independent research

 
How you will be assessed

Assessment is through a range of assessment techniques which may include:

  • Assignments 

  • Presentations 

  • Examinations

This is funded by the ESFA Advanced Learner Loan - Advanced learner loan available

 

What Next...

You can progress to health-related higher education programmes at university or college, including nursing, midwifery, and allied health professions such as occupational therapy.

 

**Please check with the university of your choice to ascertain their specific entry requirements.  

 

You will also complete modules that focus on giving you the study skills for university, which is perfect for those who have been out of education for some time.
